Raymond vs Raymond

Usher has a new album, titled "Raymond vs Raymond", to be released on March 30th. I hope that does not really happen because I think it will be career suicide for him. I do recall that earlier this year, amongst other things, he had a laptop of unreleashed songs stolen from his car. So I'm hoping he pulls an 8701 with this album. Remember that album was pushed back and later released on 8/7/01 back in 2001. Ushers last album "Here I stand" did not do very well at all, like his leading single, selling copies of that CD was like "Moving Mountains". Currently there has to be at least 10 songs leaked from this forthcoming album, which would be over half an album! I have a few of those songs posted below, most are featuring another artist. In fact I have only come across 2 leaked songs that did not feature another artist, he might as welled names the album "Usher featuring...", better yet "Featuring Usher" and only do hooks and ad-lib's.

So what do you get when you cross a hockey bag, a Haitian and an SUV crossing the Canadian boarder into the United States?

Two Virginia sisters... are in jail after allegedly trying to smuggle a Haitian man inside a hockey bag into the U.S. The Haitian lover man, was to be deported back in 2006 but fled to Canada. So loveless in VA coaxed her sister into traveling to Canada to smuggle her Haitian Mandingo Warrior back to Virginia, IN A HOCKEY BAG! - so they could get married. I checked and the largest hockey bag is a lil under 4 ft long, 2 ft tall & 2 ft wide, so that could not have been the most comfortable accommodations for the Haitian play boy. I'm pretty sure when the Canadian boarder patrol guy looked at their luggage he noticed the hocket bag looked like it had oddly shaped equipment in their. Plus isn't Canada like the birthplace of Hockey? He knew those brawds weren't on the Olympic team!

Hurricane Season, is a film based on the inspirational story of a New Orleans high school basketball coach whose team of cast-off kids wins the state championship.

Well Ummm...

NOT ANOTHER BASKEBALL MOVIE! Ha Haaa, the plot is always the same. The team either use to suck or are misfits of some type who end up winning the big game. I'm just saying, the movie is probably fantastic but these movies don't do well unless they are overtly promoted i.e. Coach Carter. Plus Coach Carter played to their audience and threw in a solid soundtrack album to further help with promoting the movie, which was great by the way. Okay, actually I never watched Coach Carter because I'M TIRED OF BASKETBALL MOVIES!!

So like 2 weeks ago I seen this guy duck off the bus DURING A SNOW STORM after he exclaimed, "Awe Shit! I gotta go there go my baby momma I can let her see me!" That same guy was on the bus stop outside the office this evening & she ran up on that nigga sumthan smoooooootttttthhhh. He was on the corner waiting on the bus, talkin shit & she crept up behing him & commenced to WHOOPIN HIS ASS MR POST MAN!!!!

I don't know where that girl could have possibly been going at damn near 11 o'clock at night, during a snow storm, with a 3-4 month old baby; Or where the hell she was coming from for that matter. After old dude ducked off the bus that night, I know she felt obscure because everyone heard what he said, therefore all eyes where on her when she got on the bus, AND she had that "what the fuck is everyone looking at" look.

HA, how lucky am I to know the endeavors of these people and I don't even know a nickname.

It was real ugly out there. The cops came and blocked the entrance to the office and had a damn peer mediation, GTFOH!

Miseducation 101: The Holiday Season

Jesus aint the reason & Santa aint either

Marry Christmas everyone, whatever that means...

Being born in America, starting with our earliest memories from childhood, we are told about Santa Claus - and if you are Christian this is paralleled with the birth of Christ. As we grow older its revealed that Santa is fictitious and, in theses days, most of us come to learn that Christ was not born during the winter months; But why is this?

Without having to get too involved in the pagan origins of Christmas (Google it), these are the basics...

The Pagan Origin

Its actually all starts on December 21 (in America), which is the 1st day of the winter solstice. Through modern day knowledge, we know that after this day the day began to get longer once again. The growing of daylight becomes most noticeable on December 25, thus the reason its on that specific date. This brings us to the "sun god" references. Its said that the sun is dying when the "fall equinox" begins because days are getting shorter. So the pagans celebrated the "birth" or "rebirth" of the sun once the winter solstice began.

This brings us to the story of Nimrod (here is one version). In short, Nimrod was the ruler of Ancient Babylon, which was founded around the 23rd century BC (history of Babylon). Nimrod married his own mother, Semiramis, who was also his sister. On a side note, this was after "The Great Flood", so maybe that was how they repopulated the earth... MAYBE. There are adverse accounts but when Nimrod died Semiramis claimed that she made a memorial for Nimrod and an evergreen tree sprang up from there, which is where the christmas tree comes from. Remember she was queen too, so when she claimed that the tree was a symbol of Nimrod returning "in spirit" and bringing the "gifts of life", it was not questioned.

There is a lot more to this story but I'm keeping it simple.

How the birth Christ come into play

So this pagan worship had been going on for many years before Christ was born. Between the Nimrod story and Christ being born, people who believed in only one God always regarded this as pagan worship. In fairness I will not get too religious but many reference to what we have come to know as Christmas, and the Nimrod/sun god/god of nature/god of life, are mentioned throughout the old testament of the bible (here is one reference).

Once again we know that Christ was not born during the winter months. It is said that maybe some 200-300 years after the death of Christ that the Pope (which would make it more Catholic than Christian, in my opinion) decided that the birth of Christ would be able to compete with the pagan worship or possibly forgo it up over time.

Again, there is more too it but I'm keeping it simple.

Modern Day Christmas/Rebirth of the Sun

Lets tie this together.

So the pagan worship/holiday was to celebrate the rebirth of the sun and/or the rebirth of nature in general. The evergreen/christmas tree is the symbol of the PAGAN holiday due to the fact that it is one of the few things in nature that does not "die" during the winter. People worship/worshiped this tree because they believe that if the put it in their houses that it would also invoke life for them. Remember that decorating the tree and leaving presents under the tree is done to make sure that the "sun god" comes and restores life to you. Also note that in order to put a present under a "christmas tree" you have to bow to the tree first.

The Christians/Roman Catholics thought, since it is not precisely known when Christ was born, that celebrating his birth at this time of year would counteract the pagan worship. The mindset being that when the pagans celebrate death we, believers in God, would celebrate life and vice-versa(which leads to Easter but I'll save that post for Easter). Basically, since we do not know the actual day, this will be the day we commemorate the birth of Christ.

Unbeknown to the Pope of the Roman Catholic church, of way back when, was the eventual mutation and mesh of BOTH celebrations that would occur. Santa Claus is a personification of Nimrod. Santa Claus is sang about and acclimated with god-like abilities. Santa Claus is not real, we know he is not, but through "tradition" we are suppose to deceive our children in to partaking in IDOL WORSHIP because they will get PRESENTS if they do. I mean, as a child i was told if I did not think Santa was real then "I don't get no gifts".

The name of the Christian holiday (CHRIST-mas) eventually became the veil that Nimrod has been able to be continuously WORSHIPED for THOUSANDS OF YEARS under.

Longer than we have been celebrating Christ!

The tree and the gifts are still the most identifiable attributes of Christ coming to the masses (the literary meaning of Christmas).

Christians receive the largest amount of blame for the pagan worship being perpetuated for so long. Instead of leaving all of the paganism out of Christmas they have incorporated the actual IDOL WORSHIP into the celebration of Christ. I'm all for a time of the year when we can show kindness to true friends & loved ones and what better time to do that than when we celebrate the birth of Christ!

On this first note I can only speak for myself. Last Friday, when Jay-Z's latest single DOA was aired, on Hot97 in New York, like I said before, I was excited. AGAIN, not because of Jay-Z, per say, and not because the song was SO HAWT. I was estatic that music lovers ALL OVER THE WORLD were at their computer and radios anticipating new music. Not only that but an exclusive that would have been exclusive to only one city, through modern technology, was available to the world via old school radio waves. ENOUGH OF THAT NOW...

What I really want to say

It seems that more people are pretty up in arms about it. The ploy was to create a divide about weather to be for or against the AUTOTUNE, and it seems to be working. I heard a "response" of course by somebody probably recording in their basement. Even Wyclef and Nick Cannon have a Autotune dis record. Now I'm hearing and reading about all these extra sensative people upset that Jay-Z is attacking autotune. Acutually he attacking autotune using RAPPERS - I mean, he did say "get back to RAPPIN, you T-Pain-ing too much" (not get back to singing, get back to rapping). Which only brings 2 rappers to my mind. The autotune is not going to die I think better choice of an autotune records popularity will be brought into effect.

PRIME EXAMPLE...

This "Jumpin out the window" song is/was and FOREVER will be WACK ASS HELL. I think we all can honestly agree that that song only got air play because it was on autotune (same can be said for the "pop champaign" song with Jim Jones - OMG). So there is a serious problem with "The Industry" rewarding artist with air play because of their ability to make a song with autotune on it. Its bad enough we get force fed the other crap, now every other song got to have some MAX HEADROOM soundin' ass muh fuggah on it?

GAWD I HOPE NOT!

The two rappers that use this autotune are Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Now I can Not say this was aimed at them because Jigga mentions both of theses guy in the "DOA" song, and not in a negative manner. PLus, they both "changed genres" for their autotune ladden albums, though those songs will/are still on rotation on your local HIP HOP station.

Every one is commenting on Jay-Z's latest release, a single entitled "DOA: Death of the Autotune". I've heard everything from, "Jay-Z is trying to take money away from artist" to "its not a hot song, he could have done better" to "Its just a way for him to come back"...

I tend to agree with all those statements. Thing is, we are missing what truly happened on Friday evening. Lets see, from anywhere IN THE WORLD, that had Internet access, you could have heard this debut LIVE. I do not think that has ever been done before, Has it?

Most people theses days can not even get a good album release date due to leaks. Some artist leak their own music to get a "buzz" going. Some artist even build buzz from saying it will be release for a year or so, to build anticipation for the album. Then we have to think about all these songs that get debuted as "downloads".

"Back in the days", I'm talking like the origin of hip hop days, late 70's early 80's, this is how all rap songs got out. The KRS1's and Juice Crew All-Stars (I will not make this a naming showcase) they would record at the studio then run down to the radio station and give the tape to the DJ. Of Course that can not happen today, TOO MANY NIGGAS WANNA RAP!

Fact is DOA could have been the worst track in Hip hop History and it still would have received the largest audience a single ever debuted. At least that what excited me. I know that not how most viewed it though and thats why we collectively get taken. Its was nothing more than a great marketing/publicity ploy.

I supposedly live in "da hood". Its not a real violent area and its definately not dangerous to be outside at any time of the day, even the we hours of the morning. They only real reason they refer to the neighborhood I live in as the hood is because the city neglects this area. So they never do any work over here. In the winter we are always last to be plowed. In the Spring we are last to get the street sweep. I even got a DWB in front of my house, aint that a bish!

Usually, they treat the roads over here like an acestrial family quilt...

Meaning they patch the hell out of them. These streets got more patches than the boy scouts of America - Scouts Honor!

Basically, the fact that they tore the entire road apart means a lot. It probably means next they'll be tearing down the houses and sending the ghetto folk packing.

Alright Class Gather 'round as I contunie to expound on the Haterism Phenomenon...

For this lesson we will concentrate on the "for the haters" comments and actions.

Lately I've discovered that when people do things that are "for the haters", oppose to being for "A" hater, they tend to get into a little bit of trouble. The trouble comes from "the haters", which is general or generic, is not aimed at a particular person. See, you can not blanket haters because they like to be identified. So in essence you have to call the hater out - I mean, call "A" hater out.

Basically, Not for THE haters, but aim at "A" hater - you have to be more specific.

I totally agree that using the internet for spewing hate is an act of "gayness"(what is gayness or "acting gay" is a whole 'nutha topic). Problem is you can NOT get mad at a specific person(hater) then make a generalization about all people who hate.

Thats the trap!

We do not want to identify the specific person because we do not want to give that hater unjust publicity. At the same time, we want to subliminally admonish the embellishment of haters by , as stated by Juelz Santana, letting them fuel your energy, building off their hate, and other such statements. Thats an oxymoron if I ever seen one, its very self-contradictory and leads to these "misconstruments"(yeah I made that word up, its the Jessie Jackson in me).

Giving haters all this "praise" without proper recognition, is Mad, I tell you MAD. That like the Grammy's or Oscar's only announcing the nominees and not having an awards show. Like, these people deserve awards but lets not pick a winner.

So Rappers T.I. and Lil Wayne Babies Mommas, Tiny and Toya, have a reality TV show on BET. You can read about all that good stuff anywhere on "the net".

What I'm sayin is who cares?

The show is suppose to be about how the girls are "trying to find their purpose in life" but really? Tiny, T.I.'s wife baby momma, was a professional in the music biz nearly 10 YEARS before T.I. was even heard of. Now Toya, Lil Waynes Baby Momma, I dont know about and I dont care to find out.

This is regardless of personal feelings for another person. There may be situation where a person that you get along with, or are fond of, but can never accomplish a meaningful task with this person. On the flip side, there are people who you may find annoying, or just do not like, but will have an uncanny ability to work well together and get things done. This is not to say that the opposite can not be true for both statements.

So for this week draw awareness of your synergy and identify the persons whom, when you form cooperative action with, help you to produce a greater effect than you on your own...

I know that most are already aware of the company AIG and the bonus crap so I do not have to go into details on that. What it comes down to is this

The information that these bonuses were coming up was out there. Thing is AIG got blasted last fall for their spa retreat booty meet junket, Wells Fargo was forced to cancel there Las Vega freakfest they had planed in February and Shitibank, I mean, Citibank had to forego their plans to purchase a mile high club magnet of a jet, in January. I guess we can say that AIG was already forewarned. After they got lashing in November, they also got to see 2 more examples in January and February. Also, there has been talk about the ridiculous bonuses that CEO's and such have been receiving - along with the talk about stoping it.

SO THE WORD WAS OUT

I'm glad AIG were such idiots because now President Obama has his team working on a remedy for theses such situations. This is exactly what needed to happen because for many years this has been going on, CEO's have been stackin then packin like that was the job.

I mean, what does it take to become a CEO of a company?

How do you get paid based on performance but even if you do not perform well you still get a bonus. That is NOT the definition of an incentive. An Incentive is to encourage a better effort or reward progress. It is quite obvious that AIG has not progressed but rather digressed. I can not, for the life of me, wrap my brain around the concept that theses people would still be entitled to a bonus.

They helped bankrupt a company and the company rewards them for doing that?

By giving them millions or dollars?

What the hell was written in those contracts?

No matter what you will be richer next year?

How can that be justified?

President Obama just finished doing a town hall meeting in Costa Mesa, California. It was awesome as usual, i guess nothing less is reasonably to be expected. What drew focus to me was the Q & A portion, particularly his answer to the housing market question. In his answer he displayed why he was able to win the election in November with his savvy and ability to make complex situation plain to the common person.

Thing is with this sub-prime mortgage lending, that some people want to blame it on the government making banks give loans to low income families. Its disturbing because those same people think they have it pegged but they have yet to scratch the surface. True as it may be that banks were made to give sub-prime loans, they were not made to inflate those loans. Everytime I have a conversation about this I have to break this down, similarly to like President Obama.

Essentially, since the banks were made to give these loans they started making people by homes.
Now about this time I always get the "people should not have bought houses that could not afford" statement, which is true; But what person, in their right mind, who works everyday and has been working for YEARS, is going to turn down their opportunity to finally own a home?

Fact is most people do not understand interest rates and refinancing, all they know is how much they have to pay, each month, and for how long. You think these people were told for the first 2-3 years they will pay $500 a month, then after that it will increase to upwards of $1500?

The answer is NO

People fail to understand that this whole banking situation is going to cause necessary parameters to be set up. It reminds me of what happen with the "buyer beware" practices of many moons ago - late 1800's early 1900's. Before things like consumer protection laws and better business bureaus, it was up to the consumer to fully inspect a product they wanted to buy. It was believe that products would be produced for quality and not just to get a quick buck. We know how that went, that is why the consumer protection laws came about.

That was when GOODS were the prime assets. At that time services were not so much covered and a hundred years later, now that SERVICES(like providing mortgages) are more prominent than GOODS, we need similar laws in place. This also encompasses Presidents Obama's mention of credit cards, again more banking stuff.

What is to come is simplifications in banking services and their products i.e. mortgages and credit cards. It will be great for banks to have to fully disclose what an adjustable rate is and means for your pocket. That way people will not "buy houses they can not afford" and if they can afford it when they get it they will be able to continue to afford it...

as long as they still work, of course.

Alirghty...

Class is back in session and the focus for today will be the Phenomenon known as "the hater" (aka da hay-duh).

On the blog Diamond Dust, A. Smith, spoke about haters and how it seems that when one does not want to directly "call out" a person, they say "its just a hater" or "its about the haters" or even "I do it for MY haters".

It seems to be an obsession, these days, to have this mythical nondescript syndicate(hay-duhs) whose sole purpose is to be the source of blame in ones life.

HUH? Let me break it down...

The Obsession

Obsession is the controlling of emotions, or thoughts, by a desire of achievement.

Thoughts and emotions are controlled by the word hater. If a person is deemed a hater, immediately, others perception of that person becomes skewed and obscure. Regardless of the credibility of the person calling out the hater, people still tend to hold the comment as truth. If you do not want someone to like another person just say that person is a hater.

Along with this conditioning of the mind is the goal of achieving the "sideline of haters". There is this growing desire to obtain as many haters as possible or to label any one who does not accept your 'swagger' as a hater. Though it should be known that every one will not perceive you as you do yourself, the mind set is that whoever does not is a hater. In short, any one not 'singing your praises' is a hater - regardless of truth.

The Mythical Nondescript Syndicate

Who is a hater, exactly? Other than unjust finger pointing, what identifies a hater?

When one says 'the haters' it is as if there referring to 'the spirits' or 'the man' - as in, its more of a representative group than actual tangible people. Haters are mythical in the sense of this false belief that created this normative system. I mean, there is not a group of people that will say we are 'the haters', no, the group will always form as 'the hateD'; But not in a victimized manner, more so as an astute group of individuals.

Again there is no clear cut way, outside of finger pointing, to depict, or describe, a hater. Nothing is out there to distinguish a hater.

Is it the way they look? Is it the way that talk? Who knows?

The Source of Blame

So, why are people infatuated with having this fictitious group? Blame is the reason.

The term hater(s) has become abstractly allegorical, meaning there is nothing of substance to back haterism. Its only an emblamatic semblance, giving a look on the surface to be the cause of another (a hater) but inwardly being ones self - or ones inner struggle with self.

If haters are a negative vice in ones life then why pursue having them? That makes it a figurative palisade, having the line of haters to defend you insecurities (its not me its them). Thus haters are out in front blocking the real source of the issue - YOU.

But Wait There Is More

I believe that there are genuine haters out there. Thing is its all of us. We all hate something, or someone even, in a perpetual since. There are things, or people, who we will never agree or meet a common ground with - its just life.

Saying things like, "if you got haters you must be doing something right" or "the more sucessful the more haters" or even "my haters motivate me", is not accurate. Those statements, and ones of the like, only mean that you embrace negativity in your life - or enjoy pissing people off.

If you believe that haters are going to further your growth maybe you should examine you "swagger".

Miseducation 101: I'm So Hood/ Your Ghetto

Once again I'm to exclaim how I'm inflamed by the misuse of words and phrases, that seemingly make you cool but truly make you foolish.

The lesson of the day is being 'hood' or 'ghetto'.

I'm pretty sure you may have heard the term used, or should I say misused. Most perceive being 'hood' or ghetto' as simply being disrespectful or behaving in an ignorant or delinquint manner. I, for one, do not agree with such an assumption. Its foolish to lump every one who, by the accidence of their existance, were born and/or lived in an impoverished neighborhood, as being being loud obnoxious degenerates. I'm personally offended, as I am from the 'ghetto' or 'hood', because I am neither. I also hate the notion that behaving in such a manner is perceived to make you cool.

I just do not get it...

See, I grew up in one of the worst neighborhoods in Milwaukee, WI. I know a lot of people ask, 'is there black people that live there?'

Well, the answer is... HELL YEAH!

I'm sorry that 'Happy Days' and 'Lavern and Shirley' gave you a depiction of a city that I did not even know, AND I LIVED THERE.

Anyway, my neighborhood was the typical poverty stricken back drop: dirty streets, abandon houses, liquor store on one corner, a church on the opposite corner, and a casscade of people sitting on porches, standing on corners or wondering aimlessly. Contrary to the song, its more than wearing you pants below your waist and having 'gol' teefasis in ya mouf'. This is why I seriously doubt that most rappers were even born and raised in 'da hood' because its nothing to be glorified.

Growing up in the ghetto has had a hand in shaping me into who I am today, good and bad. Most of the things that I've experienced from then has made me numb, numb to the ignorance and violence. See, while your misinformed about riding around in tricked out cars, getting head and smoking dope, the ultimate reality is not presented.

The reality is... PEOPLE DIE EVERYDAY IN 'DA HOOD'

People that you go to school and church with, your family and neighborhood friends. One day is permanently embedded in my mind...

It is a day I'll never forget. I was 1o years old on my way home from school. I had just gotten off the school bus and the bus pulled away down the street. As I then proceeded to cross the street I crossed paths with 3 teenaged boys, nothing out of the ordinary. Not until I seen the guy dressed in all black creep from the alley directly across from me. His target was the 3 boys who, by now, were directly behind me. I seen the guy in the alley raise his pistol. Before I can even think to run shots were whizzing by my ear. The entire block was in a stampeed and there I was in a cross fire. By the grace of God I was unharmed.

That was a normal thing, at least the gun shots were, the cross fire situation was not. There were times when playing at the playground could transcend into gun violence. Occasionally, stray bullets would claim lives of children, in those situations. Its simply mind-numbing to think that some one is celebrating and glorifying the fact your life is in danger every time you go outside. Its even more disturbing that someone, who never had to live in that situation, promotes that life condition.

Back in the summer of 2001, in my neighboorhood alone, there were 24 deaths by gun violence. All the victims were black males between the ages of 16 and 25. One particular victim I had known since kindergarden. We went to the same neighborhood elementry school, had the same teacher, and hung out together though the years. That August, he was shot in the head. After he was shot he ran about 5 blocks, then collapsed in front of the butcher's shop in a pool of blood. He was not a thug, or anything of the like. He worked and, like me, had just graduated high school that June, and was about to go off to college. I guess, he just had a knack for being 'at the wrong place at the wrong time' because he had previously gotten shot, in the back, two year prior.

BUT AGAIN...

I was at the wrong place at the wrong time when I got off the school bus that one day.

Maybe I'm just off in my thinking here. First off, I do not think its correct to term some one as 'ghetto' or 'hood' any way because those are places - not persons. At any rate, if a person is to be 'hood' or 'ghetto' I would think that they would share similar experiences like mines. The stigmata of living in this type of environment during you childhood is eternal. Eventhough I was fortunatley able to move, after 19 years of the violence and mishaps, things tend to encamp in your psyche.

If your a true 'hood N*gga' its not because of how you talk or dress but because of what you have experienced, while LIVING IN THE 'HOOD'.

This clip shows 'my hood' at about the 3 minute mark. I remeber half of these young dudes from when they were between the ages of 10 and 12. Now at ages 17 and 18, they are an example of what you become when you can not get out of the hood.

The young man at the beginning of this video happens to be someone I know/knew. When I knew him he was only about 11 or 12 years old, attended the homework club that I worked at and he was a good kid. This should give you a glimps at how living in the hood tends to break most people. I know it reminded me.

Black (history) Tuesday: History in the Making

As President Barack Obama signs the economic stimulus bill...

I think back on history, 1865 to be exact. That was the year that Freedman's Saving and Trust Company was formed. This bank was formed, by congress, to help/teach newly emancipated slaves to save money. The intentions for this bank was simple, to aid Negroes in economic stability. Between 1865 and 1870 the bank become very lucrative. It was estimated that there were 70,000 accounts and around $57 million dollars in deposits - money of blacks from all over the country. Despite the banks booming success, less than 4 yrs later the bank was collapsing. By June of 1974 Freedman's Bank was closed.

What Does This Have to do with President Obama and the Stimulus Bill?

Well, the bank was stable because its policy made it so it only invested in government securities. In 1870, the bank got new management and they had congress change that policy, which ultimately led to the closing of the bank. In 1874, the bank had called on Frederick Douglass to come in and help the fledgling bank. He even invested his own money($10,000) as a show of faith in the bank but he soon realized that the bank was already 'deep fried and barbecued'.

RIGHT NOW, our country is looking for like Freedman's bank did back in 1874.

RIGHT NOW, we have President Obama coming in to a situation where all the rotting and decaying is already visibly present.

RIGHT NOW, President Obama is about to invest $800+ BILLION dollars into the economy.

BUT WILL THAT BE GOOD ENOUGH?

Is it best to completely uproot the current banks, rid them of their worthless securities and nationalize them?

Is it best for the automakers to relinquish control of their company's to the government and produce the type of product they want?

Is it best to help the real estate market by the government helping pay mortgages?

Is it best for the government to increase aid to Americans until the job market stabilizes?

In continuing in the Black History Month theme, for this weeks word of the week, I'll use a popular figure in black history, Frederick Douglass. I guess, there is really no need to go into what he has done with his life.

Frederick Douglass was audacious in speaking out against slavery, despite, at the time, being a slave himself.

Last week I had the privilege of speaking to my 9 year old niece, she was all excited to tell me about what she learned about Madam CJ Walker (ironically I had did a post on the same day she called). Strange thing was that her version of events withheld the very important portion of information, that Madam CJ Walker was a slave before she became a self-made millionaire. Why is that so important?, you may ask. Well, its not to keep the stigma of slavery on the hearts of Black/African American youth but I think its inspiring, to even non-black/African American children, to learn that a person born in slavery(or in slavery times) can become a millionaire in America.

Yesterday, I used the Word of the Week to pour out a little of information on Ralph Bunche. So in continuing with that theme I want to a mention a few more note worthy names of Black History that are not civil right or Harlem Renaissance or pop icons.

I'm going to start with another person whom is embedded in my mind since elementary school. No other than Benjamin Banneker. Now his name is pretty popular. You may have heard of high schools and subsidized housing projects named after him but that's not enough to know.

Banneker was born in 1731 so it was still slave times and despite that he was making history. Not Just history for African Americans - but for the world. Banneker was a mathematician and astronomer, mind you that this was well before computers and calculators and such. Its said that he constructed a working wooden clock, the first of its kind, that operated for 50 something odd years. Also, near the age of 60, he made ephemeris', which are astronomical tables that tell when the next lunar and solar eclipses is, and things of the like, will occur. With Banneker being from such a long time ago there are many variations to his life story but the claim of his intelligence rings loud from any version.

This is Matthew A. Henson. His name is not as popular in black history but he was the first person to stand at the north pole. At the age of 12 he had an interest in sailing but due to racism he stopped at age 18. After that he had began going on exploring expeditions with a US Navy sailor. They had made a few unsuccessful attempts to explore the north pole. It was not until Henson spent time and learned how Eskimos were able to live in the frigid cold climate, that they were able to make to the north pole in 1909.

Henson wrote a book about reaching the north pole and his other explorations but did not receive proper notoriety until after his death.

The first Female American to become a self made millionaire, Madam C.J. Walker, born Sarah Breedlove. Her claim to fame was the manufacturing company she founded that made hair and beauty products for black women.

Rather than just go over her biography I just want to make a few notes. I'm shocked that this is not a person that is popular in black history. This woman went from working in the cotton fields in in the late 1800's to becoming a millionaire.

I mean, were would we be without the hot comb?

But I don't know, that just seems really awesome to me.

In Honor of BLACK HISTORY MONTH, I'm choosing, for this week's word of the week, a person whom I had the opportunity of doing a report on back in elementry school. I did not choose this person he was actually deligated to me by my 5th grade teacher but I have never forgotten the history of this person. The person I'm referring to is Ralph Bunche, he was the first 'person of color' to win the Nobel Peace Prize(1950), a prize he won for mediations between Jews and Palestinians back in the late 1940's. In addition to being a diplomat, Bunche was also widely know for his continual ties to the education field and worked for prestine universities such as, Havard and Howard. Not to mention, that as a prominent African American of that time, he was impelling and expressive during the civil rights movement as well.

Ralph Bunche was perspicacious in his writting entitled, "A World View of Race", in which he compared racism and class warfare.

So wuttayano, I got response to my post Are you a Non-believe II, a post in response to a post titled, " My Atheism Is Not A Rejection Of Your God", which is a response to my original Are You a Non-Believer post. Basically I'm stating that atheist can not practice disbelief, so they resort to being indisposed about perpetual things, like the words "in God we trust" being on American currency.

This is what the non-believer had to say about my last post on the subject...

This guy has no idea what he's talking about. "In God We Trust" isn't
offensive because it's "distracting". It's offensive because it is our
government, which is supposed to represent everyone, basically saying "real
Americans believe in God". It relegates atheists to second-class status. How
many times have you heard someone (like, say, George Bush 41) say that atheists
aren't real patriots or real Americans because "this is one nation under God" or
try to claim that this is a Christian nation because it says right on your money
"In God We Trust"? I know I've heard arguments like that from a lot of people.
These supposedly benign examples of "ceremonial deism" actually do cause
problems for atheists, and they are real problems.

It's simply false to claim that atheists are trying to remove God from
everything or from everywhere. We're trying to get God out of our government
(yes, it's our government too). You would throw a fit if our government declared
"Allah is Great" (implying that Islam was true), so why would you have a problem
with atheists who don't think "In God We Trust" should be an official statement
from the government?

Primarily, I find it strange that when making an argument one would dare use someone as sophomoric as George W. Bush. Personally, I have never heard of, or referred to, atheist as 'un-American' or 'not real patriots'. If anything I have heard of, or referred to, atheist as heathens, which by definition they are. Regardless of that, theoretically, America is a 'Christian Nation' because the founders were christian, and every president has professed a faith in Christianity. On that basic premise, we can say that we live in a christian nation - not because of print on pecuniary paper. What truly bothers me on this argument is that its never addressed, or seemingly realized, that despite the country being found on Christianity, they still saw it fit to separate church from state, in order not to impose, or require, others to practice their religion(but slaves were okay but I wont go there).

Are atheist aware that most countries only have one religion that allowed to be openly practiced?

If the words, 'In God We Trust' gets removed from money, then whats next? No prayer in public?

Yes, atheist are wanting to remove God from everything and everywhere. God is only in the government to the extent of the beliefs of the government officials. If it were anything else then atheist would probably be hung and drowned like witches were back in the 18th century. They claimed to be 'relegated as 2nd class' citizens? That seems strange, as I never heard of an atheist being beat, stabbed, shot or killed for their DISBELIEF.

Any way, Stop your pissing and moaning an atheist has a better shot of becoming president than a Muslim. The only reason the atheist would lose is because they would only be concerned about removing words from American currency and ridding government establishments of religious facets. ~ LMAO!

In all seriousness, since you want to use American Presidents as examples, then use our current one, President Obama, as an example too. I recall in his inauguration speech that he called everyone, including, and I quote, "NON-BELIEVERS" as Americans, all equal. Despite that he still continued to display and profess HIS belief, while not spiting another belief, or dis-belief...

and he does the same here when he speaks at this prayer breakfast...

AinThissaBowda: Freak Fest

Last week I did a post about the attention CitiGroup received when they wanted to purchase a $50 million dollar jet. Now Wells Fargo, the same bank that fought over who would get to liquidate Wychovia, is raising eyebrows. Monday they metioned paying $371.5 million to the government, Tuesday its been found that they are going on an 'all expense paid vegas five-star freak fest' - not just any weekend at Vegas romp, Wednesday(today) they CANCELLED the trip. It was nothing but a week ago that CitiGroup felt the heat and Wells Fargo must have not been watching the news. How did they think that this would not garner as much attention as the other financial institutions did? Oh, they said the trip was not a junket but a meeting and recognition event; But get this... it was for their employees that made home ownership acheivable.

Do these fools know the state of the real estate market today?

What Wells Fargo needs to do is recognize the state of our economy and meet on how they can help fix that, which will not require a 2 week gala in Vegas. Now, financially, and despite losing a heaping amount of money between October and December, Wells Fargo is still one of the better off financial institutions. What Wells Fargo has to realize is, regardless of their stability, they were given bail out money to help the economy. None of these banks have yet to start lending. Rather than figuring out how to best use OUR money we gave them, they'd rather relax and live it up taking posh spa retreats, buying private jets, and planning buttfuggathons in Vegas.

This is the $42-$50 MILLION dollar jet that the financial institution, CitiGroup, was looking to purchase. We all are aware of the bail out the banks got and these fools want to spend the bail out money, that they requested to save their corporation, on traveling in style. Besides CitiGroup already owning 5 private jets, and losing a reported $29 BILLION in just 15 months, they just did not see a need to cancel an order for such a luxary assest. Well our beloved, President Obama, caught wind of this and lit a fire to their corporate asses and they decided that maybe it would be better to not purchase the 'chick magnet' jet. Plus they have now decided to cut that private jet fleet of 5 down to 2. President Obama, where I'm from we would call that gangsta. I guess, the real question is...

Should the government be allowed to tell corporations how to spend money?

I say hell yeah, especially when they looked to the government for aid in the first place. We already seen how the stiffs over at AIG went on and have a spa retreat 1 week after they got bail out money. Also CitiGroup got into a pissing competition with Wellsfargo over which one of them would get to devour Wachovia bank, with the bail out money.

Usually, when money is borrowed you do not tell the person what to do with it, you only concern yourself with getting the money back. But let us not forget that the banks came to the government with their hands out claiming that it would be bad for America if they went belly up; And claiming that it would be good for the economy, thus, good for all Americans. The disappointing part is that people still can NOT get loans from banks but they can still give their executive raises, go get spa treatments, and buy $50 million dollar jets?

Hopefully Citigroup will be the last institution to have to be made an example of but I doubt it. These paupers of wealth are distitute of any sense of compassion for anything outside of their pockets and lavish living. These 'trout mouf bastids' exploitinted capitalism for their own selfish greed, which in turn has assasinated our economy and has our country in a current state of disarray. For some inhumanistic reason they remain in this dellusional state of mind, that the damage they have done entitles them to lifes greatest amenities - I dont think so...

Aight, I was blog hoppin and seen some tags the needed poppin'

So first I seen this on Martini & Scotch- Serving Shots and Hard News this a blogging by, no other than, Ms. Martini herself, an acquaintence of mines and I just want to thank her for providing info on Lil Kim being salty at her 'unsavory' portrayal in the Notorious B.I.G. Movie, that helped me come up with this weeks Word of the Week: Solacious.

She saw it on Fly Honey, who I really have no connection to, only about 3 degrees of seperation between us - But I did see her on Blogadelphia and apparently she loves to knit?

I also peeped this on I Am One Ten, my midwest homie in 'Tha D'. Yeah, he got me looking at the HTC Touch Pro, at least until I seen the price tag... I got kids mane! $500 and no sucky sucky with that? (Ok I'm still going to get one)

My President is Black II (read this $H!T)

Let me first say I'm not the news and I'm not trying to bring you anything new. This is just my opinion on certain things that I hear or read about.

Ok, so last week my tout about 'my president is black' seemingly got overlooked. Maybe because its an effervescently over used shibboleth now that people are growing tired of hearing (and now i'm using big words). BUT ITS NOT GOING TO GO ANY WHERE. Simply put, ITS TRUE. As much as it should not matter, it does. As much as 'politically incorrect' it may be, it is NOT. As much as it annoys you/us/them to hear it and see it, its just as ambiguous. The 'my president is black' statement's ambiguity(an unclear expression) is tied to that fact that its perceived by most to mean something that it really does not mean. The best example is the song 'My President is black'. I dont care for the song, though I understand it.

Just listen to the hook... 'my president is black/my lambo blue/and I'll be got damn if my rims aint too/momma aint at home/ and my daddy still in jail/ i'm tryna make a plate anybody seen the scale'

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE, the president is black but the laws are still the same, the politricks are the same, the poverty and drug infestation of black neighborhoods are still the same. So while we are celebratory in President Obamas feat that we helped him to accomplish, that does not YET change the position that the 'black community' is in.

The real reason I'm doing a part II

There seems to be quite a few ridiculous claims made about this phrase, the most preposterous being the labeling of the song, 'My President is Black' (the remix by rapper Jay-Z), as racist.

So far not racism... maybe calling Obama half white is racist?

hmm... maybe they mistook the word flag for fag? Even so that is still not racist.

They want us to stop saying 'My President is Black' because now Martin Luther Kings dream, of one day people being judge by the content of their character and not the color of there skin, is supposedly fulfilled?

At the same time they want full acknowledgment of his white half (to make it OK to them). This seems like double talk, well it is double talk and a double standard.

Fact is, people are still judged by the color of their skin and not the content of their character. Disregarding the FACT that the president is black is not going to do anything as far as racism in America. That can only be hampered by our actions more over our words, especially words in a silly rap song or from an off color radio show.

We will continue to say our president is black because the Historical American Assumption has made it so. We are going to continue using the shibboleth my president is black. Not because we are racist or want race to perpetually continue to divide our country; But to remind OUR president, continually, that WE got him elected into his position of power and that We are proud that it is him and that WE are behind him 100%.

Besides that we claim him. Even if President Obama wanted to be called white he couldnt be, even though he looks middle eastern, he's not. So dont get mad that my president is black.

I'm only sharing the videos because I think its funny as hell to hear theses fools have to say the rappers names and speak slower than the usually do and pause a little more than usual - I wonder why?(not really)

I understand, and appreciate, that we have an Iconic figure for a president but this is teetering between insane and 'We Todd Did'. I know Obama wants to boost the economy, but I'm pretty sure he did NOT mean using his face on boot leg items by inflating prices of generic brands. My President is Black

It still befuddles me when the subject of President Obamas race is mentioned. It also bothered me during the election, when it was assumed that black people were just automatically going to vote for him. Black folk know this not to be true. Regardless of the state of 'the black community' we still take pride in who represents us as a whole. I mean, if Jessie Jackson ran he would not have had any where near as much support of the black vote as Obama did; And in 2004 Al Sharpton could not even get 50% of the black vote. I'm just going to 'let the cat out of the bag' here because I know what I was thinking was shared by many others in the black community.

OBAMA DOES NOT LOOK BLACK...

Now we do have a lighter skinned brother who's held high political office in Colin Powell, BUT Powell is from the Bronx, we didnt even know Obama. We might have seen him during the 2004 democratic convention, we may have seen him on the cover of 'Newsweek Magazine' back then, and we may have known about him beating out black republican, Randolph Keys, for the Illinois senate seat. WE MAY HAVE known those things. Since we really do not care for politics and politicians, until after they have done US some good, we probably DID NOT know those things. I remember the first time I seen Obama I was like, 'they let an arab become a politician, is he related to Bin Laden?'

Yes, Obama was gracing magazine covers back in 2004, right after he won the Illinois senate seat.

During the early stages of the democratic primaries the black vote was held by Hilary Clinton. As time progressed and we seen, and heard, more of, and from, Obama and embraced he message, then did his support from our community rise. Even before that, though, we still questioned.

WAS OBAMA BLACK ENOUGH...

We were like, Barack? What is that? and Obama? Is he Moose-lam? Is he even a citizen?

As much a people perceived that we(black folk) were just going to profess our undying support for the brownest or, in Obama's case, the Beige-est candidate, just shows how much 'out of touch' they out with us. We know thats nothing more than an EXCUSE that racist and republican used, to justify being behind in the polls. Seems like a case of amnesia set in. They forgot how hard Obama worked to get our support because the republicans never gave a damn about our vote in the first place - especially since Bush showed them how to 'nullify' it. It can be said that he willingness to go into our neighborhoods and talk to us contributed heavily to him being president NOW. Had he not done that, he woud not have even made it out of the primaries, so respects his genius of that fact.

Nonetheless, the question of weather he was black enough was answered by the many times he appealed to the issues of black people, or should I say poor unprivileged black people. Most people, outside of the impoverished black community, thought black enough had something to do with bloodlines and culture. Again, there was a failure to realize that as long as he's not pale, his hair is a little kinky and he speaks english with no foreign accent - HE IS BLACK TO US.

Lets just 'hit the nail on the head', if it were not for the historical American assumption, that white only means pale skinned and straight hair; And, lets face it, if it was not SO FREAKIN' COOL to be black, then maybe Obama would prefer to be called white. Better yet, if that same historical American assumtion did not pin so many negative connotations to people who are not 'fair-skinned' then it would not matter at all. Since it does...

Tales from the hood: Happily Ever After

AH THE MEMORIES...

It was the summer of 1999. Back home, in Milwaukee, for some crazy reason they decided to have a concert in the heart of the ghetto at Washington Park(click for and Idea of park). This park use to be a zoo back in the 1900's, when there was electric streetcars. SO the stage area that was use was not designed for admission pay. I mean, any other day we would be on that stage and playing over there like it was the swing set or basketball court - the crowd section was the size of a football field. So, they had put up 10 ft fencing around the stage to make sure people would pay to get in.

SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

We from the hood, in our hood, and like I said, we use that area like the rest of the park; And a fence? We climb fences for fun, when there is nothing else to do. Remember the area is the size of a football field, so there was no amount of security or police to cover the whole fence. Plus people was sneeking right past the ticket booth anyway.

Now I do not remember all the acts that were there that day but I do remeber that Case was the headlining act and thats who everyone came to see. I was able to hop the fence with 4 resident hood rats and we were pretty much front row. Now that I think about it Case was low budget as hell. He didnt even have any musicians with him, all he had was two dancers and a microphone.

Since its Martin Luther King Day, there is no mystery on who this word or the week will pertain to. Also Dr. King can not be summed up in just one word or sentence, so i have a few word and will use then in a short paragraph.

Martyr - a person who is put to death or endures great suffering on behalf of any belief, principle, or cause:

Since Reverand Martlin Luther King, Jr., there has not been any one, in America, of eccesiastical backgroung to move this nation. His bucolical aura abled him to lead fellow people of color to join him in civil right activism. During the late 1950's and the 1960's, Dr. King was hacylon in his efforts to fight segregation by using methods of boycotys, sit-ins, rallies and marches. Ultimately, On April 4th, 1968, his assasination made him a martyr for racial equality in America.
